‘Roll up your sleeves and get to work,’ says young Martin Luther King Jr. speech winner

“Roll up your sleeves and get to work,” was the theme of an inspiring address given Sunday (January 18, 2015) by Terynn Erby-Walker, from Alcott School in Milwaukee, at the 31st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in Milwaukee. Terynn was one of the winners of the Martin Luther King Jr. speech contest.

In the contest, Milwaukee schools first hosted competitions within their own schools, choosing the best to participate in a preliminary competition to determine five finalists in each of six grade categories – K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12. Those finalists were part of an event at the We Energies headquarters to select first-, second- and third-place winners in each grade category, who went on to participate in the final event at the Marcus Center.
